Polyphonic Open Decks began in April 2024 at Polymath in York, born from a simple idea - to give DJs of all levels a chance to step up, share their music, and connect with like-minded people. What started as a Thursday night experiment quickly grew into a cornerstone of York’s nightlife. Within months, Thursday nights at Polymath transformed from one of the quietest evenings of the week into one of the busiest, filled with great music, energy, and a buzzing crowd.

The concept’s success led to a second weekly night in summer 2025 at THOR’s Tipi on Parliament Street, York, every Wednesday. This expansion gave even more DJs - from first-timers to seasoned selectors - a platform to perform in front of an engaged, music-loving audience.

Today, Polyphonic Open Decks boasts a growing roster of regular DJs alongside fresh talent each week, creating an ever-changing soundtrack and keeping the nights exciting. Beyond the music, it’s become a genuine networking hub for up-and-coming DJs, connecting them with local promoters, event organisers, and fellow artists, opening doors to future gigs and collaborations.
